Business The tele. arm of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries, Reliance Jio Info.m has asked handset manufacturing .panies to make 4G-enabled mobile phones in India itself. If the handset manufacturers agree over it, then Reliance Industries retail arm, Reliance Retail will buy all the handsets made in the country. Reliance Industries is pushing Prime Minister Narendra Modis Make in India campaign. Reliance Jio had partnered with manufacturing .panies and is all set to roll out its 4G services in December 2015. Reliance Jios plans with handset makers Reliance Jio has approached handset manufacturing .panies like Micromax, Lenovo, Karbonn, Lava, Intex, etc. for this project. Some of the .panies have agreed to set up their manufacturing plants in India. Reliance Jio wants them to mainly focus on manufacturing 4G-enabled phones. The .pany will thus be able to sell cheap handsets as they will be made locally. Micromax, Intex, Karbonn and Lava are drafting plans to set up their manufacturing units in India. They will start the production of mobile phones in 6 to 12 months. Reliance Jio had earlier inked pacts with Chinese mobile phone manufacturers including Huawei, Alcatel OneTouch (TCL .munications), ZTE, CK-Tele. and K-Touch, which is owned by Beijing Tianyu .munication Equipment. As per the deal, Reliance Jio will be obtaining smartphones from these .panies. These smartphones will be sold all over the country by Reliance Retails consumer electronics brand, ReConnect. ReConnect will sell the handsets and devices at a price starting from Rs. 4,000 and ranging up to Rs. 25,000. At the time of .mercial launch of Reliance Jio, the .pany will ensure that smartphones under the range of Rs. 5,000 are available.It also promised that any difference between the supply and demand of smartphones at a specific price level will be met by the brand, ReConnect. Other Chinese .panies like Huawei, Alcatel OneTouch and ZTE will be supplying routers, dongles and other broadband products for home and small office users. Reliance Jio has given an order of nearly 50 lakh smartphones to all of these vendors and others too. The contract manufacturer, CK-Tele. is the one to receive the maximum share of the order. 4G preparations of Reliance Jio The maximum work of Reliance Jio is being done on the 2300 MHz band. The .pany holds this band all over India. This spectrum band travels short distances. Reliance Jio also holds other bands like 1800 MHz and 800 MHz in 20 regions out of the total 22. The .pany uses this band for offering its servicesand will continue the same in future, too. Reliance Jio has invested Rs. 1 lakh crore for its tele. venture. It will offer services to 5,000 towns and cities. It has also set up a wireless footprint in 1 lakh villages of India and laid a .work of nearly 2.5 lakh route kilometers of fiber optics.
